Nato nel 1976 nella provincia di Khorasan, Mohsen Namjoo è un cantante, cantautore, studioso di musica e setar (liuto persiano tradizionale) attualmente attivo a New York.
Acclamato come “il Bob Dylan dell’Iran” dal New York Times, Namjoo è considerato un artista visionario che parla ai giovani in Iran. Combina perfettamente la musica persiana classica con la chitarra elettrica e le tecniche vocali Rock e Blues con lo strumento musicale persiano (canto).
Il suo stile vocale unico e il suo mix tra Oriente e dall’Occidente lo hanno reso un personaggio iconico nella musica mondiale contemporanea.

Born in 1976 in the Khorasan province, one of the epicenters of poetry and music in the north east of Iran, Mohsen Namjoo is a singer, songwriter, music scholar and setar (traditional Persian lute) player currently based in New York City.
Hailed as “the Bob Dylan of Iran” by the New York Times, Namjoo is considered a visionary artist who speaks for the youth in Iran. Seamlessly blending Classical Persian music and scales with electric guitar, Rock and Blues vocal techniques with Persian avaz (singing), he fuses the ancient with the current. His unique vocal style and effortless mix of music from east and west have made him an iconic persona in contemporary world music.
About the book:
“Four Essays” is a research on contemporary Iranian music by one of the most important and creative Iranian musicians, Mohsen Namjoo, edited in four commentary essays.
In the first essay he critics past-orientated society of Iran and discusses its effects on Iranian music. The second one deals with the formation of alternative and independent music in Iran with a historical look at the evolution of music in the years after the Islamic Revolution. The third essay is about the adaptation of traditional Iranian music to the concept of tyranny, and finally the last one studies the relationship between music, heaven and mysticism with references to the art history.
This is Namjoo’s second book –after his 20-year-old diaries, published by Naakojaa publishing house in Paris in November 2018.
