LUIDJI live
Luidji’s latest album, Season 00, is the work of an outsider—an artist striving to break free from conventions. He seeks to give breath and relief to his melancholic words, blending dark prose with luminous music. Luidji enjoys intertwining or clashing emotions, playing with paradoxes to better define his identity.
When he started out in the Capsule Corp collective, rapping about flaws or insecurities was not an option. You had to be the strongest, the most handsome, invincible. Virile and dominant. Ego was prioritized over courage. Today, at 32, he leaves the labels and tricks to others. His universe is fueled by something else. Luidji doesn’t need anyone to validate his reality—he is his own judge. At home, and perhaps this is why his songs are so captivating and unclassifiable, it’s all about opening up and discovering oneself without ever losing one’s way.
After releasing some EPs with Wagram—a path that ultimately led nowhere—Luidji founded his own label, Foufoune Palace Hello, under license with Def Jam/Universal. When writing his first album, Tristesse Business: Season 1, released in 2019, he was working night shifts at the emergency room in Levallois. “At the time, I had a few tracks floating around the internet, and I kept asking myself: Am I an artist, a fraud, an imposter, a genius? What am I going to say in 15 tracks? Who even cares about my life?”
He searches for himself, facing the blank page and the anxiety of repeating what has already been said a thousand times. “And I realize that, in the end, the only story I really needed to tell was about a love triangle I had experienced—one that completely turned my stomach, my heart, and my brain upside down…”
